“It was very satisfying to be able to yet again deliver a tailored training program for the client.”

Joanne Harrison, Onboard Sales Director

ERP training and change consultancy Onboard created customized pre-UAT training courses to support the subject mater experts (SMEs) at OKI, a global printer manufacturer.

In 2021, five months before the European branch of OKI was due to go live with S/4HANA Finance, Onboard was engaged to design and deliver the SME’s training program.

OKI was looking for an online interactive training program that would support their SME’s with a number of particular system-based processes. The system was still very much under development and the objective was to provide the SME’s with an overview of the new and improved functionality of the new S/4HANA system over their previous version of SAP.

Writing outlines, lesson plans and online exercises entirely from test scripts whilst the customized S/4HANA system was still being built was a challenge. The Onboard consultant used their past experience of the system whilst collaborating regularly with the implementation partner’s build consultants.

Onboard’s consultant also acted as a facilitator throughout the training program, using both the implementation partner and the SAP trainers to supply the detailed technical information. This information often had to be repackaged into a more user-friendly format before being delivered to the SME’s.

Two positive points came out of the training feedback – the SMEs found the training program extremely useful in preparation for UAT and it also underlined a variety of development discussion points for the implementation partner.

Joanne Harrison, Onboard’s sales director said: “This was undoubtedly a tricky balancing act for us to ensure OKI’s SMEs were equipped with the correct level of knowledge. It was very satisfying to be able to yet again deliver a tailored training program for the client.”
