“Onboard's biggest asset was their consultants came in completely ERP and specifically Microsoft Dynamics literate so we saved a lot of time there.”

Joe Calabrese, IT Operations Manager

Onboard has designed and developed a complete end user training program for the global rollout of Kodak Alaris’ new Microsoft Dynamics ERP system.

Kodak Alaris was formed in 2013 following the takeover of Eastman Kodak’s personalised imaging and document imaging operations. The company employs more than 3,000 people in 34 countries around the world, and is currently implementing a phased rollout of Microsoft Dynamics ERP, starting with the US and Canada.

Onboard was hired to provide a high quality but cost efficient role-based training program to support end users during the first phase of the rollout, which Kodak Alaris could then adapt for subsequent rollouts in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

“The significance of the ERP implementation meant we needed very specific expertise for training our users that we didn’t have internally,” said Joe Calabrese, Kodak Alaris’ IT supervisor on the project. “We did our research and Onboard was the best fit in terms of their capabilities and cost.”

Onboard carried out a detailed analysis of Kodak Alaris’ training needs and began to develop a solution. Onboard created a training template of role-specific courses and lesson plans, along with a full suite of supporting documentation. Onboard also provided a series of two day Skill the Trainer courses to support the 23 internal Kodak Alaris super users who would be delivering the end user training sessions.

Kodak Alaris was very satisfied with the template and materials that Optimum provided and the super users also gave positive feedback on the Skill the Trainer courses: “Comments were that the sessions were well done, well coordinated and the information was delivered very professionally,” noted Calabrese.

Although Kodak Alaris is headquartered in UK, the Microsoft Dynamics ERP implementation was driven by its offices in Rochester, New York. Onboard’s consultants travelled to Rochester to conduct detailed knowledge transfer sessions and to deliver the Skill the Trainer sessions.

Following the knowledge transfer process, Onboard’s consultants developed the detailed training template and documentation. “We had absolutely no reservations about using Onboard because we’re a global firm that likes to utilise global expertise,” Calabrese said.

Like many ERP implementations, Kodak Alaris’ Dynamics ERP project had a challenging timeframe, and the initial go live had to be rescheduled, which required Onboard to be very flexible. The training template and materials were developed while the system was still being customised and configured, so some content had to revised and work processes were finalised.

“Schedules slip with major projects so it’s very hard to find the perfect time to plan and deliver end-user training but Onboard definitely held up their end of the deal better than we did,” Calabrese acknowledged.

Reflecting on the success of the collaboration, Calabrese said: “Onboard’s biggest asset was their consultants came in completely ERP and specifically Microsoft Dynamics literate so we saved a lot of time there. Actually having the knowledge that’s promised was very refreshing.”
