“This is another example of how our service knows no boundaries. We delivered, quite literally, to the other side of the world.”

Joanne Harrison, Onboard’s Sales Director

Onboard was selected to create a tailored end user training program for Ahpra, a national health organisation in Australia. Ahpra was implementing Unit4 ERP and was searching for a specialist training consultancy with experience creating end user training courses for that system. Onboard was the perfect fit.

One of Onboard’s training consultants travelled to Australia to carry out initial scoping work and design the overall structure of the training program. All other work, including the development of the training courses and supporting materials, was carried out remotely.

Unit4 ERP was implemented to replace a variety of legacy system and paper-based processes. The change was expected to impact more than 2,000 users across Australia.

As they were not familiar with the Unit4 ERP system and as the end users had varying levels of technical skill and experience, Ahpra wanted Onboard to provide highly detailed training materials covering finance, procurement, and the expenses process. The training program was to include a general introduction to each module as well as a detailed explanation of each individual process.

To provide the level of detail required, Onboard built on its existing eLearning concept videos and for the first time created a series of animated videos to explain the different processes. These videos detailed the client’s business processes and included some screenshots, carefully staged to account for the sensitivity of the data handled by Ahpra.

In addition to the eLearning videos, Onboard created a suite of customized, role-based lesson plans designed to aid Ahpra’s internal trainers in delivering end user training sessions in the classroom.

Onboard also produced a range of supporting materials, including detailed quick cards explaining key processes for light-touch users, and reference guides aimed at core users.

One of the main challenges of the project was the timing. When Ahpra initially approached Onboard, they did not have a system build in place. This meant that the information needed to develop the training program wasn’t always available, and many processes were still being finalised. However, Ahpra had firm go live dates for each phase of the project that could not be moved, so Onboard used all its expertise and flexibility to deliver the training program in full and on time.
